Consultant MichaelOwens.com McLean, VA Sept 00 - Present	As a Marketing Design Consultant at The Washington Post, Michael created a set of animated ads for the Washingtonpost.com website advertising home delivery. She also designed a direct marketing promotional email to coordinate with the campaign. Serving as Creative Director at The National Cancer Institute, Michael designed the user interface for the new Cancer.gov site, various sub-sites, and administrative tools. In addition, she conducted usability analysis and analyzed usability testing results. Michael also designed online, multimedia, and print materials to support the Institute's national educational initiatives. As a Marketing Design Consultant with Integrated Marketing Solutions for the Commonwealth of Virginia, Michael designed a "brand identity" for the Virginia-Israel Advisory Board, including a web site and newsletter. She also designed administrative tools and a training program for staff in the use of admin tools and basic maintenance tasks. As an Information Architect at Cable & Wireless, Michael was tasked with combining several existing and planned network reporting tools. She worked with the Customer Care and Network Support groups to identify user groups and define usability goals. Michael analyzed the existing applications and designed and developed a new interactive, real-time reporting tool interface with Macromedia Flash and Generator. Consulting on a web-based accounting and reporting application at American Management Systems, Michael served as Information Architect on the project. She conducted a usability analysis of the existing system and made recommendations for improvement. Once those recommendations were approved, she designed and prototyped new application UI, including the development of a new information architecture and design.

Consultant MichaelOwens.com Tyson's Corner, VA Apr 99 - Nov 99	As Manager of Web Production at Winstar, Michael served as Technical Lead for Internet Services on Office.com, designing the Information Architecture and User Interface and produced presentations, technical specifications, business plans, and training materials for the project. As Technical Lead of the Broadband Intranet project, she designed web-based applications for reporting and tracking purposes within the organization. Michael worked closely with members of the training team to produce educational materials for their use and developed standards and procedures for moving existing training materials online. Michael developed a set of e-commerce training materials which was awarded “Best of Show” at the Winstar National Sales Meeting in 1999. As the Senior Producer of the U.S. Mint’s children’s web site, Pocket Change, Michael managed a team of designers, developers, and writers. Her duties included designing key graphic and navigational elements of the site, coordinating a team of educator consultants, developing and editing educational content and curriculums, and designing interactive games in Macromedia Flash and Director. Michael served as Executive Web Producer for the PBS production of Jewish Cooking in America. She managed design and production of the site, including user interface, content, and development.

She also served as Senior Designer on many projects, managing junior designers and contract staff to produce quality interactive content for national and local sites. Other projects included the development of educational resources for teachers and parents, a children's site, and marketing materials.

This included creating original graphics optimized for both PC and web delivery, developing content and help materials for the application, and building dynamic pages. In addition, Michael managed a team of designers, writers, and programmers producing multiple corporate Web sites for external clients and a corporate intranet. She also collaborated with the Marketing department and designed print materials.
